Stewarding Your Time
"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." —Psalm 90:12
Time is one of the most precious gifts God has given us. Unlike money or possessions, time is fleeting—once spent, it cannot be regained. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of all that God entrusts to us, including our time. And yet, how easy it is to forget this and spend our time on things that do not matter for eternity. We challenge you to take an inventory of your time. Map out one day and record how you spent those 24 hours. It can be incredibly eye-opening to see it all on paper. Reflect on what was time well spent and what time-wasting habits you might be regularly engaging in. It’s easy to let distractions direct us, but when we are intentional about tracking our time, we can weed out things that take us away from what is truly important and use that time more wisely.
One of the most meaningful ways to honor God with our time is by wisely investing in our families. Every day presents a new opportunity to cultivate deep, meaningful relationships with our spouses, children, and extended family. Work, social media, and entertainment can subtly pull us away from intentional time with our loved ones. Stewarding time well requires making conscious and intentional decisions that prioritize family.
Practical Ways to Steward Time With Family:
- Prioritize faith: Set aside daily time for family prayer, Bible study, or devotions. Encouraging a Christ-centered home strengthens your relationships and keeps your family grounded in faith.
- Practice Presence: Quality time isn't just about physical presence—it’s about engagement. Put down your phone, turn off the TV, and truly listen. Whether it’s a heartfelt conversation over dinner or playing a board game, being present communicates love and importance.
- Set healthy boundaries: Work and obligations are necessary, but they shouldn't overshadow family. Be intentional about setting boundaries—designate work-free evenings, create limits for screen-time, and prioritize quality time with family over other social engagements.
- Create meaningful traditions: Establish family traditions that honor God, whether it’s Sunday dinners, serving together in ministry, or celebrating milestones with gratitude. Traditions build lasting memories and instill values that transcend generations.
One day, our children will remember how we spent our time. Was it filled with hurried obligations, or did we cultivate moments of joy, love, presence, and faith? Stewarding our time well means leaving a legacy that points to Christ—a life that, even in its simplest moments, reflects His goodness and love.
